Dear friends, at 69 years old and disabled with MS, and a former radio broadcaster, I was displaced and made homeless where I lived at ground zero in Englewood Florida by Hurricane Ian September 28 2022. After putting all of my belongings into a storage unit costing $400 monthly, I subsequently drove further north to Lake City where I was forced to live in my 1998 high maintenance Crown Vic without air conditioning in the sweltering heat with my pet cockatiel Toby until I could raise the money to purchase all cash a small house or mobile home in a better area out of harms way. Then it grew bitter cold during the winter months and I caught covid following ear wax build up resulting in hearing loss. Having no success there, I drove on to Jacksonville still homeless. Perhaps not the wisest choice being another random decision, as the city has the reputation of being one large ghetto. Meanwhile, government assistance and the public housing waiting lists are backlogged for years to come due to the extensive destruction caused by the storm. Then following expensive car repair after living in it for 7 months, I suffered a debilitating setback May 7 2023 when I collapsed in a parking lot from heat stroke and landed face first onto the asphalt. I was then FORCED against my will by the ambulance service costing $1000 alone for the ride, to be taken to the ER after a bystander called them. Then after running up the bill with unnecessary and costly cat scans since I was lucid and coherent, it cost $14,000 for just a couple of hours in the emergency room while only needing a few stitches above my left eye. UF Health Jacksonville hospital enlisted a collection agency that has sued me to try to collect the debt by seizing my bank account for the little money I have to live on! Therefore presently, my ministry is up in the air so to speak because my studio is still in storage. In fact, this website is being maintained remotely at the local library via their internet connection, while online hosting costs additionally. My monthly social security income alone and now poor credit makes it improbable to finance purchasing, or to afford the less desirable option of renting in a strained market, so your tax deductible gift will go a long way in furthering this ministry by getting me back into my studio!
